2010 CATA CONFERENCE INFORMATION

Conference Dates -- Monday, August 23th thru Thursday, August 26th, 2010.

It is that time again for the annual CATA Conference.  The 2010 CATA executive board has been working hard to plan and organize this year's conference.  We are once again having the conference in August, at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge. The conference dates are Monday August 23rd thru Thursday August 26th, 2010.

2010 Class Information

          Early registration
               deadline is
            June 30, 2010

This year we’re bringing back many educational courses you might have enjoyed or missed from the 2009 conference. Many of these courses were well received. The Division of Property Taxation (DPT) will be providing 13 courses at the conference. We’re also including 14 other courses from instructors such as Harry Fuller and M. Steven Kane (Wild Rose Appraisal), James Canestaro (Registered Architect, Certified Urban Planner), Deane Wilson (ASA), Dick Gilmore (ASFMRA), JoAnn Apostle (Kaplan Professional Schools), James Felt (Water Law), and Garth Thimgan (IAAO).

The 2010 conference is providing 180 hours of Continuing Education on top of the 30.5 hours of Qualifying Education. Depreciation Analysis is a tested course for Qualifying Education that will go towards your IAAO designation. James Canestaro’s Evaluating Commercial Construction course is 15.5 hours of continuing education, and 15.5 hours of Qualifying Education if you wish to take the test. We can’t thank the DPT and our outside providers enough. If it wasn’t for their support, CATA could not continue to provide quality appraisal and administrative education.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations of any classes from 30-11 days prior to the conference are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations from 10 days prior to the conference date are subject to no refund.

Tax Exempt Credit for Lodging

When making the room reservation for your county make it clear to the reservation attendant the charges for your rooms will be tax exempt.  Ask for a fax #,and fax a copy of the sales tax exemption certificate

to the reservation attendant immediately following making your reservations. Please keep in mind the room charges must be paid directly from county funds with either a credit card with the county’s name on it, or a county check for the charges to be exempt. The State of Colorado will not honor tax exemption from the resort if the funds are not drawn directly from the entity on the exemption certificate and, therefore, the resort is unable to pass that benefit on to us.

Conference Events

Tuesday Night Dance
The dance will be held this year on Tuesday evening August 24th at Coppertop III from 8-11pm. A DJ will be on-site. The host is Weld County, since they won last years CATA cup, the theme they picked for the dance is Reggae Party. Remember there will be awards for best-dressed male and female, in addition the famous CATA cup, which is awarded to the best-dressed county.  Even if others from your county are unable to participate, there are individual awards that could be yours if you are up to the challenge. This is a great opportunity to meet many of our members throughout the state. We hope to see you all there!

Wednesday Night -- The dinner meeting will be held Wednesday evening August 25th. Currently the board is looking over menu options. We’ve received many concerns about last years dinner buffet and we assure you something else will be provided. The 2011 CATA Executive Board nominations will be held during the dinner meeting. We want to encourage anyone who’d like to participate in providing an outstanding conference for our members to join. You do need the support from your Assessor and will need a nomination to get your name on the ballot.

All positions are up for election besides the Treasurer, which will be nominated at the 2011 conference. If interested, see this
W A N T E D document.

***Important Reminder***
In order to attend the dinner meeting you MUST have a dinner ticket when you register.  If you do not have a ticket, you will not be able to get into the business meeting. There will not be any exceptions due to budget and planning with Beaver Run.

Breakfast:
Breakfast will be provided again this year. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday CATA will provide a continental breakfast. On Wednesday morning a hot breakfast will be served.
